Student Spotlight: Emma

We’re bringing back the Student Spotlight with one of our Seniors: Emma!

Student Spotlight Emma

Tell us some basic info about yourself (school, background, family, future goals)

I live with my mom and my stepdad. We have a dog named Oliver. I go to Lincoln and Virtual Campus. I want to go to Drake University next year and start earning my law degree.

What brought you to Virtual Campus?

Being at school in person was getting harder for me because I had bad social anxiety and I would miss four out of five days every week. Virtual came around the following year and we at once enrolled me for it.

What are some challenges you have faced and how have you overcome them?

I struggled with depression and social anxiety and since going to Virtual I have made friends and connected with my teachers more than at Lincoln.

What are your hobbies and interested outside of school?

I like reading. I will read anything that I find interesting. I like to travel. I want to go to all fifty states someday and I collect snow globes from each state I have gone to.

What do you love about Virtual Campus?

The flexibility of getting schoolwork done like if I have a day where I feel miserable, I can wait until I am feeling better to begin classwork. I really like the communication with teachers it is easy to do and they are extremely helpful. The teachers and staff are open to innovative ideas and to getting to know their students better by having office hours and doing fun activities that will get the students involved.

What is your favorite VC class or favorite VC teacher and why?

I like English because it was fun, and I got to read different books. My favorite teacher is Mr. Olson because he is fun, and he is a good listener when I need him.

What advice do you have for current and future VC students?

If you have problems reach out to teachers, they are extremely helpful, and when Covid19 gets done I would recommend going to their weekly hours to meet your teachers and other students that you can bond with.

What are your future plans after graduation?

Going to college and hopefully getting my law degree in the future.

You’re future is bright, Emma, keep shining!    -Your friends at Virtual Campus
